I\'ve enjoyed seven years of formal art training. Four years at Newcastle-Under-Lyme Tertiary college, and I graduated from Wolverhampton University in 1994. I Have been employed as a graphic designer between 1998 and 2001 and I am currently self employed under the business name of ideo-sync, offering a range of creative design services, photography and photo manipulation.
Concepts/ideas/themes
My work reflects the study and application of texture, derived from naturally occurring stimuli. It is my whole intention to let my art develop through experimentation via new and mixed-media, and with no preconceptions. By the very textural nature of the work, there are many levels to be appreciated. I also try to incorporate new methods and media and rarely use traditional materials.
Processes and techniques
Mixed media and the incorporation of new material and methods. The application of many layers of textures. Materials used in previous works include, broken reinforced glass, sealant, rubber, melted plastic, cellulose spray paints, filler, sand, PVA glue, car body under-seal, wire, nails. Sometime I score my work with wooden sticks to create ridges and marks, sometimes I burn areas to create interesting colour changes and textures, and dry brushing for delicate colouration.
My new photo art transforms everyday objects and places into weird and wonderful creations. The mundane becomes extraordinary and magical. Images are taken from a variety of digital cameras including mobile phone images, digital compacts, and digital SLR\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s. Images are transformed via photographic image manipulation on my apple macintosh computers.
